January 20, 2008 — NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals, LLC Discovers 2nd Novel Glycosylated Macrolactam Antibiotic
NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals recently discovered a second glycosylated macrolactam antibiotic: NOVO4. The second in a new class of structures, it is related to NOVO3 a novel chemical entity (NCE) previously discovered by the company. Though NOVO3 and NOVO4 are both glycosylated macrolactam compounds, NOVO4 has a novel core ring structure as well as novel ring substitutions. In addition, this NCE has activity against MRSA, VRE, and other important pathogens; in-vitro toxicity to mammalian cells is minimal. NOVO4 is a classis drug-like “small molecule,” with a low molecular weight. Preliminary in-vivo studies are planned.
“While related to NOVO3, NOVO4 is a promising drug candidate in it’s own right. This new class of glycosylated macrolactam antibiotics has excellent drug-like properties and both structures are quite amenable to medicinal chemistry if required. NOVO4 represents our fourth NCE. We have clearly demonstrated that our drug discovery technology can deliver novel antibiotic scaffolds. As we proceed with preclinical development, we are confident that our discovery pipeline will continue to produce antibiotic NCEs as well as NCEs for other therapeutic regimes.” Aram Salzman, CEO NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals, LLC.
October 15, 2007 — NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals, LLC Discovers Novel Glycosylated Macrolactam Antibiotic
NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals announced the important discovery of a novel chemical entity (NCE), a rare and previously undiscovered glycosylated macrolactam antibiotic: NOVO3. This compound has rapidly cidal activity against MRSA, VRE, and other important pathogens. This drug-like “small molecule” NCE has a low molecular weight and a core ring structure unrelated to any reported compound. In addition, NOVO3 shows minimal in-vitro toxicity to mammalian cells. In-vivo toxicity and efficacy studies are planned.
"NOVO3 is the first antibiotic-like compound from our discovery pipeline. NovoBiotic has recently discovered 3 NCEs. We have every reason to believe this discovery pipeline will continue to generate chemical novelty over the next few years,” said Aram Salzman, NovoBiotic’s CEO.
June 15, 2007 — NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals, LLC Discovers Novel Quinone Antibiotics
NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals, a Cambridge, MA based company, recently discovered two novel polycyclic xanthone antibiotics related to citreamicins, known quinone antibiotics. Both compounds are more amenable to medicinal chemistry than known citreamicins and have oncology / chemotherapy potential.
Aram Salzman, NovoBiotic’s said "NOVO1 and NOVO2 represent important validation of our core technology. These two compounds demonstrate that previously unculturable bacteria are viable sources of novel chemical scaffolds."

February 1, 2007 — NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals Receives $600,000 NIH - NIAID SBIR Grant
NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals, a Cambridge, MA based company, was recently awarded $600,000 by NIH-NIAID in the form of an SBIR grant for their antibiotic drug discovery work.
Charles Moore, Ph.D., NovoBiotic’s V.P. of Chemistry and Scale-Up said "This is further evidence that NovoBiotic is a leader in antibiotic drug discovery."

August 15, 2005 — NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals Receives $1 Million NIH - NIAID Biodefense SBIR Grant
NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals, a Cambridge, MA based company, was recently awarded $1 Million by NIH-NIAID in the form of a Biodefense SBIR grant for their antibiotic drug discovery work using novel “Elicitation” techniques. The grant “Novel Approaches to Accessing Secondary Metabolites” complements the company’s work using “previously unculturable” bacteria for antibiotic drug discovery.
Lucy Ling, Ph.D., NovoBiotic’s V.P. of Biology said “our elicitation technique allows us to stimulate production of previously inaccessible secondary metabolites from both existing collections of bacteria and 'previously unculturable' bacteria." As we broaden our intellectual property portfolio we continue to innovate and advance the field of antibiotic drug discovery.

March 31, 2005 — NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals, a Cambridge, MA based company was recently awarded a "Project Bioshield" grant for their antibiotic drug discovery work with "unculturable" Actinomycetes bacteria.
Aram Salzman, CEO commented that "the Bioshield grant represents a vote of confidence for our technology and our company. NovoBiotic's (patent filed) approach to growing formerly 'unculturable' fungi and bacteria in the laboratory solves a fundamental problem in microbiology. For the first time, the vast world of microorganisms is truly accessible for drug discovery; we are confident that a wealth of new antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals will follow."

November 7, 2003 - NovoBiotic Pharmaceuticals, LLC, a Cambridge, MA based company founded by Dr. Kim Lewis and Dr. Slava Epstein of Northeastern University, received "A" round funding from private investors on November 7th 2003.
Aram Salzman, CEO commented that "In the current investment environment, the fact that we received such a substantial early round of financing demonstrates the significance of our research and technology. Our (patent filed) approach to growing formerly 'unculturable' fungi and bacteria in the laboratory solves one of the fundamental problems of microbiology. With the vast world of microorganisms readily accessible for the first time, we are confident that a wealth of new antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals will follow."
